As mentioned above, just like most banks, Truist Bank doesn’t offer cryptocurrency trading directly, as setting up a crypto exchange is quite complex and comes with regulations and extra requirements for the banks.

There are many crypto trading platforms that you can use for buying bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Once signed up to an exchange (we’ll be using eToro for our example as it’s a widely trusted and global exchange), you can simply transfer funds from your bank account to the exchange, and trade it for crypto.

How to buy crypto or bitcoin with Truist Bank

There are only 4 steps involved, let’s get started!

1. Choose a cryptocurrency exchange

As mentioned above, we’ll be using eToro for this guide as they are a widely used exchange and have over 50 cryptocurrencies to choose from. They also have a few really neat features like “Copy Trading”, which enables users to copy the trades of popular investors on the platform.

2. Sign up with the trading platform

The first thing to do is to sign up with the platform.

Once you’ve completed the initial sign-up process, you’ll have to go through a quick verification process (also known as KYC).

3. Funding your account

Next up is funding your account. When it comes to depositing money to your eToro account, you have the option to use a bank transfer, PayPal, credit/debit card, and more.

4. Buy crypto

Finally, just go to the eToro Markets section, find the cryptocurrency you would like, and buy it.

About Truist Bank

Truist Bank is the best choice for those who live close to one of the nearly 2,500 locations throughout the South, East, and Midwest. There are more than 3500 ATMs at the bank.

Account holders aged 23 or younger who live near a Truist Student Checking branch or ATM pay no monthly fees.

Truist was created from the 2019 merger between BB&T banks and SunTrust banks. According to the Federal Reserve, Truist was the seventh-largest U.S. bank at the end of December 31, 2021.

Truist offers four checking account options, including the Truist Brilliant Checking account. This review scored it highly. The account is $50 to open, but there is a $12 monthly charge unless you maintain a minimum daily balance of $1,500 or make a monthly direct deposit in excess of $500.

Students who attend college near Truist Banks and ATMs might be interested in the bank's Student checking account. It has no monthly service fees and no minimum deposit requirement. To be eligible, students must be at least 23 years old.

Truist Online Savings accounts can be opened with no minimum deposit and there is no monthly fee. The account does not earn a competitive return. The account's APY is less than the national average of Bankrate.

According to Truist's website, CDs can be purchased with terms that range from seven days up to five years. Bankrate found only four terms online in its review: six months to one year, 18 month, and two years. These CD terms had four balance tiers, but they all earned the same APY which was lower than the national average.

A minimum $1,000 deposit is required for Truist CDs that have terms ranging from 32 days up to five years. Truist short-term CDs require a $2,500 minimum deposit. Terms range from 7 days to 31 days.

You won't have to pay a monthly fee as long as your daily ledger balance is at least $1,000. You have check-writing privileges.

All six balance tiers received the same APY at the time Bankrate reviewed them, which was lower than the national average.

Truist has approximately 2,500 branches across 17 states and the District of Columbia. Customers can reach out to their account representatives by phone from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Eastern, and 8 am.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Although customer service representatives are not available on Sundays, there is an automated 24-hour assistance line.

Truist's iOS app received a rating of 4.5 stars and Google Play a rating of 3.2 stars. Customers of Truist can use Zelle to send or receive money, just like many banks. You can also use the app to deposit checks or lock a Truist debit cards.
