How to Buy NEM – 4 Easy Steps

1. Choose a crypto exchange

Finding a cryptocurrency exchange isn’t that hard. There are plenty of big players out there that have been around for quite some time.

This is where our comparison tables can help. The important factors to look for are fees, security, and if they have NEM of course.

2. Sign up with the crypto exchange

Signing up with any of the major exchanges is generally very easy. The initial sign up should be very fast, and even the verification processes are very well set up these days.

3. Fund your account

Next, you would need to fund your account with either fiat money (USD, AUD, GBP, CAD, etc) or another cryptocurrency like BTC or ETH. This process should again be straightforward and easily done using one of the bigger cryptocurrency exchanges.

4. Buy NEM

Now that you have what you need to buy NEM, head over to the market or buy section of the crypto exchange and buy some XEM.

If the crypto exchange doesn’t have any NEM on offer, for most cryptocurrencies you can buy Ethereum instead, transfer it to a decentralized exchange like Uniswap (check if Uniswap has NEM first), and trade your Ethereum for NEM.

Considering buying NEM? XEM Rundown

NEM, a blockchain platform, was launched in March 2015. It was a pioneer in the cryptocurrency industry and sought to fix the flaws on existing chains. It was the first chain to have user-defined tokens (called "mosaics"), namespaces and multisignature accounts. The P2P reputation system is based on EigenTrust++. The proof of-importance consensus mechanism is its most significant contribution to this space. It aimed to reward on-chain activities and discourage the accumulation of wealth that is often associated with proof-of stake. Its client, NIS is written in Java.

NEM is a global community. It considers NEM to be an alternative payment method for vendors and businesses. There are a number of social media apps that have been built on top of it, including nemgraph in Japan. This is a community-driven, owned and operated alternative alternative to Instagram.

A pseudonymous group of crypto enthusiasts and experts hard forked NEM in December 2021. This hard fork was called Harlock and signaled that the community wanted to transform NEM from an obscure cryptocurrency into the most trusted platform for payments for on-chain or off-chain media content.
