Chainlink, a blockchain abstraction layer, was founded in 2017. It enables universally connected smart contract. Chainlink was one of the first networks that allowed the integration of off-chain data in smart contracts. Chainlink is a trusted partner and one of the leading players in data processing. Chainlink's integration of off-chain data has attracted the attention many trusted data providers such as Alpha Vantage, Brave New Coin and Huobi. Chainlink can be sold access to data providers directly, monetizing the information.

Chainlink is a decentralized network that allows users to become node operator and generate revenue while running the critical data infrastructure necessary for blockchains' success. Chainlink is powered by a large number of node operators who collectively run a variety of decentralized Price Feed Oracle networks. These networks currently generate billions of dollars for top DeFi applications such as Synthetix and Aave.

Chainlink is a company that aggregates and provides cryptocurrency price data to DeFi protocols such as Aave. It has expanded to much more. Through 1,000 integrations with 700 Oracle networks, the ecosystem has access to over 1B data points. This has helped secure over $75B in financial value. Chainlink has partnered with major organizations such as AccuWeather and FedEx to verify data. Chainlink's biggest win was Eric Schmidt, the ex-Google CEO and chairman, being appointed technical advisor to the Oracle network protocol. Schmidt says that Chainlink is "a secret ingredient to unlocking smart contract platforms' potential and revolutionizing society and business." He is keen to help Chainlink create a world based on truth. Schmidt joins Jeff Weiner, former CEO of LinkedIn, and Tom Gonser (co-founder of DocuSign).

Chainlink will roll out staking to LINK holders in order to secure the network, and earn rewards. Chainlink has been working for a staking solution since years. However, oracle networks are not blockchains but a form decentralized computing. Chainlink co-founder Nazarov explained that Chainlink doesn't produce blocks, but rather "make consensus over hundreds of oracle network about price data." He said the team is now satisfied with the security of the consensus mechanism and ready for staking to begin this year.
