Celo is a Blockchain ecosystem that focuses on increasing crypto adoption by smartphone users.

Celo plans to use phone numbers as public key to allow the billions of smartphone users around the globe to transact in cryptocurrency.

As part of decentralized financing ( DeFi), the network allows for creation of smart contracts ( DApps ), and decentralized applications ( Smart Contracts ). The mainnet was launched on April 2020.

Two native tokens are available on the platform. CELO is a proof of-stake token (PoS), used for transaction fees and governance participation. The platform will host other stablecoins in the future. Currently, there are three: the Celo Dollar, Celo Euro, and Celo Brazilian Real (CREAL).
