How to Buy AirSwap – 4 Easy Steps

1. Choose a crypto exchange

Finding a crypto exchange isn’t that hard. There are plenty of big players out there that have been around for quite some time.

This is where our comparison tables can help. The important factors to look for are fees, security, and if they have AirSwap of course.

2. Sign up with the cryptocurrency exchange

Signing up with any of the major exchanges is generally very easy. The initial sign up should be very fast, and even the verification processes are very well set up these days.

3. Fund your account

Next, you would need to fund your account with either fiat money (USD, AUD, GBP, CAD, etc) or another cryptocurrency like BTC or ETH. This process should again be straightforward and easily done using one of the bigger cryptocurrency exchanges.

4. Buy AirSwap

Now that you have what you need to buy AirSwap, head over to the market or buy section of the crypto trading platform and buy some AST.

If the crypto exchange doesn’t have any AirSwap on offer, for most cryptocurrencies you can buy Ethereum instead, transfer it to a decentralized exchange like Uniswap (check if Uniswap has AirSwap first), and trade your Ethereum for AirSwap.

Considering buying AirSwap? AST Rundown

AirSwap is another decentralised token that has recently been brought to market.

AirSwap, which is a decentralized exchange for ERC-20 tokens (DEX), is based in Hong Kong. To create trading markets for any of the thousands ERC-20 tokens, it uses its own cryptocurrency, either the AirSwap token (or AST). All this is done without the need to have a centralised market maker.

With security and privacy as the top priorities, the AirSwap trading platform was created. The company aims to provide a platform that allows users to trade anonymously, in a peer-2-peer fashion without the need for third-parties or trading fees.

AirSwap is an ERC-20 token. The platform uses the Ethereum Blockchain to create a decentralized trading marketplace. ERC-20 tokens are supported by the platform. This is extremely useful for traders, given the large number of altcoins that use the ERC-20 standard.

AirSwap hosted a crowdsale that saw them distribute the AST token to contributors in 2017. This was a very successful ICO, which saw the project raise over $30m.

AirSwap's Swap Protocol was created to allow transaction-free trading. To settle orders, the Swap Protocol uses smart contract on Ethereum. Everything else is done off-chain. AirSwap believes that trading on their decentralized exchange is faster when traders are connected off-chain than on other decentralized exchanges like EtherDelta, which rely on the blockchain to fulfill orders and propagate information.

AirSwap realized that trading on-chain for matching trades was not the best option due to the delay it causes. To fulfill trades on-chain, you must wait for the nodes to agree on transactions. This takes around 15 seconds on the Ethereum network. This is too slow for an exchange where orders should be filled in microseconds.

The AST token is primarily used by market makers (aka sellers) to create markets on AirSwap. To create a market for a cryptocurrency, a maker can use the AST token. This is also known to provide liquidity for the exchange.

The maker determines the bid price or what they are willing to pay. They also decide the ask price which is the amount they expect to get. Because they have a lot of the asset being offered, the maker can create a market. They then profit from the difference in the ask and bid prices, also known as the spread.

Market makers are established by traditional exchanges. However, AirSwap allows anyone to become a market maker simply by indicating their intention to provide liquidity. You can do this by staking 250 AST. Once the AST has been staked, it is locked up for seven business days before a market is formed.
